The history of music has been driven by conflicts between tradition and innovation. Join us as we explore the schism in German romanticism of the 19th century.
Known simultaneously as a traditionalist and an innovator, German composer Johannes Brahms is viewed as a protagonist of the classical tradition in a time when its standards were challenged by romantic radicals such as Liszt and Wagner.
Concert master Melina Mandozzi, principal cellist Agnese Rugevica and award-winning pianist Christian Hundsnes Grøvlen will perform excerpts from their favourite chamber works by Brahms. Musicians from the Grieg Academy will add to the experience by putting these works into the context of the aesthetic divide in 19th century Germany.
Further details will be posted on the Facebook event one week before the concert.
