All it takes is a cup of hydrogen, some carbon, and maybe a pinch of calcium - but where is everyone? Are we alone in the universe? Research is advancing, and maybe we’re closing up on the answer. But do we really want to know?

This evening the search for intelligent life will be our main topic. What effort does the scientific community make to detect or contact them, and what technologies should we expect them to use? Are they even likely to have any interest in talking to us?

While there are technological limitations, the Drake Equation predicts potentially thousands of intelligent lifeforms out there, just in our own galactic backyard! Maybe we’re already being observed, as one of the many possible answers to the Fermi paradox?

It’s time to step up our efforts to answer what could be the most important question in the history of history. Humans are explorers, and we ought to know with whom we share the universe. Are we alone?

Pete Worden, Executive Director of Breakthrough Starshot Initiative will join us for a great discussion and presentation on the topic. His work in the Breakthrough Initiative is accompanied by people like Stephen Hawking and Yuri Milner, and aimed at finding or communicating with other civilizations. Worden is also the former Director at NASA’s AMES Research Center, giving him a deep insight into the spacecraft capabilities and possibilities of tomorrow.
